Finding business casual clothing that’s stylish, comfy, and budget-friendly can be a challenge. I’ve been hunting for all of the above in preparation for some upcoming work plans, and was having a really hard time until I struck gold at Gap Factory (Gap’s outlet store). After trying on dozens of items, I finally discovered 9 modern workwear staples I’m personally adding to my closet. They’re great for business casual outfits, but I’ll also be able to incorporate them into my weekend wardrobe as well.
From polished trousers and versatile khakis to elevated tees and cozy sweaters, these Gap Factory finds deliver style and value without sacrificing quality. Plus, Gap Factory often has sales up to 60%– I was able to grab each of these for under $40! Also keep a look out for their deals of the week.
Relaxed Stripe Boatneck Sweater
The wide boatneck on this sweater gives it a more elegant look, but the relaxed fit keeps it cozy and comfy. If you’re in an office that’s always freezing, this will be a fave! Your normal size will most likely fit slightly boxy and oversized.
Stretch Jersey Scoopneck Top
A long sleeve tee is an easy closet staple to dress up or down. This is the perfect basic to pair with trousers and accessories to elevate the look. I’d suggest sizing up for a more relaxed fit. My normal size was snug around the waist and upper arms.
Mid Rise Downtown Khakis
If you’re pretty active at work, maybe traditional dress pants aren’t for you. These mid-rise khakis are more up to the challenge, with a bit of stretch for easy movement but a tailored look to keep things classy. They have an ankle fit that pairs well with flats or loafers, and the waist fit is true to size with elastic at the back for extra stretching and cinching.
Modern Ribbed Mockneck Tank Top
I loved how this fit so much, I bought two in different colors! This is a great summer to fall transitional top, and will be easy to layer under a blazer come fall and winter. It has a relaxed fit– I suggest ordering your normal size.
CashSoft Ribbed Crewneck T-Shirt
Absolutely obsessed with this faux cashmere sweater tee. It has the same luxurious and thick feel, but at a way more affordable price. It’s stretchy, though I’d actually size up as I found this shirt to hit short on me in my regular size.
Easy Crepe Trousers
It’s been so hard for me to find trousers that fit well, and these finally checked all the boxes. At 5’4″, the petite length is perfect for me, even in sneakers, and completely covers my ankles. The waist is fitted while the straight cut legs add slight flowiness to the look. However, I’ll warn you against the Birch White shade which are very sheer. Stick with the darker colors. The waist fit is true to size.
Ribbed Pointelle Ruched Top
This one definitely leans on the casual side of business casual, but can absolutely work in the right colors. I grabbed this top in Black and Serene Blue to pair with khakis and skirts alike. You can buy true to size and this will still be relaxed through the waist.
Ribbed Eyelet Flutter Sleeve T-Shirt
I’m a sucker for any type of interesting sleeve that can make a t-shirt look like… well, not a t-shirt. This top has the comfort of a tee but looks far dressier with the eyelet flutter sleeves which hold their shape. I’d personally size up in this one, as it was very snug around my waist in my normal size.
Crewneck Cardigan
I had to grab this hot pink cardigan to add a pop of color to my business casual outfits! A super versatile piece, you can wear this alone as a top, or use it to layer over a base shirt. The tortoise shell pattern buttons add another extra fun touch to the look. I sized up in this for a little extra room to layer and button without gapping.
