Why Did Sarah Hyland Leave Love Island USA? Why Ariana Madix Replaced Her

She was one of the more divisive hosts but there’s a very undramatic reason why Sarah Hyland is leaving Love Island USA. Sorry to disappoint. The Modern Family star joined the Peacock dating show in 2022 and served for two seasons, following on from Arielle Vandenberg.

The change in hosts wasn’t welcomed by a lot of fans of the show. “I don’t like her as a host for this show, in my eyes she is cute so trying every time to push the sexy vibe it just comes out cringy to me, she does seem like a lovely person just not cut out for LI, [sic]” wrote on Reddit.

“Sarah just seems annoyed all the time and like she doesn’t want to be there. Therefore she comes across very fake. She doesn’t have a host personality and how she talks and acts is such an act. This isn’t a job for her. And I think they need to replace her,” another argued.

Replace her they did, as it was announced in May 2024 that Vanderpump Rules darling Ariana Madix was joining the show as host for season 6 after making a cameo in the season prior. Here’s why Sarah Hyland left Love Island USA.

Why did Sarah Hyland leave Love Island USA?

As I said, the reason isn’t dramatic. Scheduling conflicts caused Sarah Hyland to leave Love Island USA, according to an Instagram Story posted on March 28, 2024. “Well, just got a text 😂 I’m disappointed the news had to break this way, but it is in fact true that I will not be returning to the island this summer,” she wrote.

“I have committed to an exciting project, that will be announced soon, that conflicts directly with the shooting dates for Love Island USA. While I’m sad I can’t return, I hope to see lots of love this summer.” There’s no word on what that project is yet—her IMDB page just says “Untitled Sarah Hyland/Emily V. Gordon Project.”

Her replacement, Ariana Madix, told The Talk how she’s going to approach her hosting duties. “Okay, so I know that I’m older than the Islanders are going to be. I want to have a big sister kind of vibe. I plan on being very involved,” she said. “I’m going to watch as much as possible what’s going on, on the live feeds and stuff…I plan on having these girls’ backs, and if I see something I may have to bring it up.”

She went on to explain how her time on Vanderpump Rules will help her guide them. “These are going to be first-timers being in an unscripted world, and I think hopefully my perspective having done it for so many years will allow me to help them along their journey.”

Love Island USA premiered in 2019. The show aired its first three seasons on CBS. In 2022, news broke that Love Island US was renewed for a fourth and fifth season on Peacock, moving the series from CBS to the NBC exclusive streaming service.

“As we continue to make Peacock a destination for must-watch original programming, partnering with a global powerhouse like ITV enables us to build on their internationally beloved formats to attract all new fans to the platform,” said Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said at the time.

Love Island season 6 airs on Bravo at 10:30 pm ET
