With a massive heatwave sweeping most of the United States, keeping our pets cool is about more than just their comfort – it’s also about their health. My little 10-pound Lorelei is a burrower (as many smaller dogs are), regardless of whether it is -5 outside or well over 105 degrees… she wants to burrow. Aside from running the AC all day, additional complimentary cooling solutions had to be provided.
That’s where the Zonli cooling pads come into play! Unlike the cooling pads many of us are used to (the ones you have to wet or plug into the wall socket), Zonli’s products are self-cooling. This alleviates a lot of the mess and, in my case, moisture rashes on my pup. Since dogs cool off most in their thighs and armpits, Lorelei can fully sploot on the mat and get the relief she wants (while equally able to have a wee thin little blanket on top of her).

About Zonli
Zonli was founded by a man named Peak, out of a pursuit to find an effective solution for his mother after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy causes insomnia and sleep distribution, and if anyone has experience with cancer, you know that sleep is vital for the body to assist in repairing itself. Peak set out to devise a cooling blanket to help her temperature control, partnering with sleep experts and various production teams.
The result was a cooling blanket that uses safe, breathable materials to offer relief from chemo appointments. This eventually evolved into cooling mats for pets, using the same technology as the blankets for people. Peak’s mom coined the term Z-Magic, which you can see being used on the pet cooling mat today.
Which Types of Pets Is Zonli Best Suited For?
The Pet Cooling Mat and the Z-Magic version are marketed predominantly to dogs. Dogs tend to overheat the fastest and find immediate relief in lying on a cooling pad.
This being said, cats can also enjoy the cooling mat. Both mats are designed to be pilling and claw-proof, so there isn’t a concern about offering one to your purring friend.
Because this is a bedding, it is not recommended for pets that are unable to have bedding due to chewing tendencies, but luckily if they do get some in their mouth, the mat is made of non-toxic fabrics and other materials.
Key Features
Zonli is pretty unique in the cooling mat world, and this is why.
Pricing
The Zonli mats are more expensive than the cooling mats many are familiar with, but this is because the material and design are far superior to those of other products.
For the Pet Cooling Mat, prices are $60 for the medium size, $70 for the next size up, and $80 for the extra large. The Z-Magic version is $69 for the medium, $79 for the large, and $89 for the extra large. Zonli does have sales on occasion, in which the mats can go as low as $30 off.
Shipping is free for the United States.
Materials and Design
Zonli products are promised to be the healthiest cooling mats on the market today – with all of the materials being hypoallergenic and completely non-toxic. This means that should your pup chew on the mat, they won’t have toxic chemicals in their body as a result.
The design and construction are simple yet elegant, and the beautiful stitched wave pattern assists in the mat’s cooling technology.
Zonli promises that every step of the mat production undergoes strict quality control and scrutiny, ensuring the efficacy of every pet cooling mat sold.
Color and Variety
Both mats come in three sizes and three color options.

There isn’t a lot of variety in the colors, arguably, but what is offered does look very nice!
Self-Cooling
Zonli utilizes a scientific technology known as Arc-Chill fabric, which naturally provides cooling comfort when touched. Unlike other cooling pads that you need to soak with water, plug into electricity, or pre-cool in the fridge, Arc-Chill fabric needs absolutely nothing.
Scientific studies on the specific Arc-Chill fabric showed that it can reduce human body temperature by up to 35.6 degrees, so imagine how effective it is on your pet!
Durability, Cleaning, and Maintenance
The durability features of both the Pet Cooling Mat and the Z-Magic Pet Cooling Mat are really impressive (and you can tell that they were made by pet owners who understand our needs).
Waterproof lining that helps against spills, drool, and slobber
Pilling proof
Scratch and claw-proof
Both mats are designed to last for many years and can withstand daily (routine) wear and tear from your pet jumping on them, walking on them, and sleeping on them.
Of course, dogs that are destructive can damage the mat, which is why it’s important to only use this product with dogs that are safe to leave fabrics with. Puppies that are teething, anxious dogs that chew, or bored fabric munchers may not be good candidates.
No specific maintenance is required, just common sense to keep your mat looking nice year after year.
Should the mat get dirty, you can machine-wash both products on a gentle/delicate cycle (I also put mine in cold water). After the washing machine, you can either air dry the mat or throw it into the dryer on a low-heat tumble dry setting.
Portability
Both versions of the cooling mat are very portable; they roll up easily. The Z-Magic version has the addition of buttons (to hold the roll in place) and an attached handle to make it even more portable.
Our Reviews of Zonli Cooling Mats We Received
1. Pet Cooling Mat
The Zonli Pet Cooling Mat is a brilliant solution to those warm days – predominantly because you don’t need to do anything other than roll out this mat! The self-cooling technology keeps the mattress cold to the touch without needing to wet the mat, forget it in the fridge for a few hours, or use electricity. The mat is soft and fluffy to the touch, with a smooth side as well. Reversible to be used in any season, it’s easy for the mat to become a permanent fixture in a room.
Made the same as human cooling blankets, this mat uses non-toxic materials to be safe for pups that may be enticed to chew. The Cooling Mat comes in three different sizes and three lovely shades. All of the sizes are easy to roll up for transport and throw into the washing machine for cleaning.
Made out of completely non-toxic and safe materials
Self-cooling technology
A side for cooling in the summer
A side for heating in the winter
Very soft textured fabric
2. Z-Magic Pet Cooling Mat
For traveling pets, the Z-Magic option is the way to go. Featuring all of the same perks as the Pet Cooling Mat, this version has a few extra convenient additions. For one, the mat is fully waterproof, so spills and occasional muddy paws won’t be a problem. This pad is also fully reversible, so one side can be dedicated for inside use and the other for outside use.
Secondly, this version has buttons and a handle to help the cooling mat roll and go. These little details make it very convenient to throw the Z-Magic in the car and take it to a coffee shop, public park, or car camping adventure. The Z-Magic is a bit bigger than the Cooling Mat, but the extra real estate can be useful. With the same cooling features Zonli is known for and the ease of washing the mat in your laundry machine, this can quickly become your dog’s greatest companion.
Can be rolled up, with an easy-to-carry handle
Large sizes available
Double-sided for indoor and outdoor use
Has a waterproof barrier
Our Experience With Zonli
The two Zonli cooling pads came at the perfect time as Southern California was experiencing yet another wave of intense heat, with temperatures rising well over 100 degrees outside. Although I keep my home around 70 to 73 depending on the day, the house is quite large and not always the easiest to cool. Pair this with my dog Lorelei’s propensity always to need to lie on some sort of fabric, and I start to stress about her temperature regulation. I sincerely hoped that at least one of Zonli’s products would answer my needs.
Both pads arrived in their respective cardboard boxes, with the inner lid featuring a quote from Zonli regarding how many customers use their products! After trying the pads out myself, I can completely understand why they’ve shipped a million products (if my dog could talk, she would chime in on that as well). Each pad was individually wrapped in compressed plastic but quickly jumped back to their thickness and form within seconds.
Before even offering either pad to my dog to try out, I immediately felt the coolness pulling each one out of their bag – I was already impressed, as admittedly, the boxes had sat on my front porch for a couple of hours in scorching heat before I picked them up. Both pads were a very comfortable thickness. I could feel that my pup would have a good amount of support when laying – which is very important to me as she suffers from bone and joint problems (the joys of owning a former stray!) Poor thing had a severe calcium deficiency when I adopted her from the shelter, which leads to irreversible medical issues. Aside from the cooling properties and support, I was equally impressed that the pads were both incredibly lightweight. I had expected far more mass and was pleasantly surprised.
The rose pink colored pad is the Zonli Pet Cooling Mat, and mine is a size 23” x 36”, which is perfect for my furry gremlin. I loved the very soft and fuzzy fabric the top of the mat was lined in, and so did my dog – anything even remotely fluffy, and she is all over it! Lorelei immediately jumped onto the pad and laid down, pure bliss on her face. Although it is summer and I am focused on cooling, I like that the pad is reversible, with one side offering cold and the other side offering warmth. Granted, my dog wanted the fluffy side the most, but even that was cool to the touch. My dog isn’t a chewer, so I didn’t worry there, but I do like the fact that the pad is made with non-toxic materials. Additionally, the construction is also claw and scratch-proof, so I’m not worried about my dog running, jumping, and playing on the mat either.
The second pad is larger than the rose one – it’s the Z-Magic Pet Cooling Mat in gray, sized at 27” x 40”. This version is more meant for adventures, as this pad has two neat little buttons and loops that allow you to roll the pad up. A handle at the top makes it perfect to carry, so this one has been designated as our to-go mat. The larger size works well for this as the pad unfolded fits perfectly In the back of my car, nicely on a guest bed, or can be used outside. Even though Lorelei super fell in love with the pink pad, she became equally enthusiastic about this gray one when she felt how cool to the touch it was (proceeding to roll over on her back – access to the belly is a big compliment).
Washing both pads was so easy—I just threw them into my washing machine on the gentle/delicate cycle and then into the dryer on a low-heat tumble. The website also says you can air dry, but I’m a bit impatient for that (sorry!). All in all, my pup loves both pads, and I like the ease of having these around. I regret not using them sooner!
Conclusion
Both Zonli cooling mats have quickly become integral staples in my home and car this summer – with the fluffy rose option hanging out in various parts of my home and the portable gray version off to adventures in the car. Honestly, I find both pads to be well worth the investment – my dog adores them, and they’re so simple to use. I’ve already recommended them to my friends, and if I’m doing that, then you best believe I love this product!
