Having a dog and not owning a leash set is impossible; walking is such a big part of dog parent life. But with (literally) millions of options on the market, finding the right one can be tedious. I know for myself I have many trial-and-error with my dog, and each one isn’t quite perfect.

What Type Of Dog is Bella & Pal Best Suited For?
Although dogs as big as 28” at the chest can fit this harness and leash set, I feel like the design is intended more for smaller dogs. Like my own, small dogs tend to be the best candidates for harnesses because of the health risks imposed by tugging on collars (small tracheas!).
That said, any dog well versed in polite leash walking can benefit from the Bella & Pal OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness and Leash Set, especially in warmer climates where you don’t want to overheat your pup. Although the design is soft and won’t harm your pup if they pull, I think dogs that are extremely aggressive pullers wouldn’t benefit from this harness.

Material and Design
The Bella & Pal OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness is made of an air-mesh fabric on the chest plate, which helps keep the harness breathable. The adjustable shoulder straps and leash are made of the same material, which feels like a strong nylon composite. Both products are soft and comfortable to the touch.
The harness is halter-style and requires the pup to step in. Its design includes completely adjustable straps (to adhere to your dog’s exact size), a clasp on the back (the harness closes between your dog’s shoulders), and two O-rings for extra security. The leash clips onto the two O-rings.
The chest area is very soft and sits below the neck (truly on the chest, unlike many other harnesses), so your dog isn’t harmed if it pulls. The breathable fabric allows even more comfort and is especially useful in hotter climates.
The leash is made of the same material as the harness and features a soft, padded neoprene side in the loop that goes on your hand. The leash is also built with a 360° rotating clasp, preventing tangles as the leash twists and turns with regular use. There is an extra O ring right below the loop, which is convenient to hang a poop bag dispenser.
The leash and harness have reflective material stitched on to help see the pup in low-light situations.
Cleaning
Both the harness and leash are completely washable and easy to clean.
The best way to remove significant stains and dirt is to fill your sink with lukewarm or warm water and mix in baking soda or a bit of your dog’s shampoo. Then, put the harness and leash in the water and soak them for about 30 minutes.
Afterward, use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to scrub the material gently to remove the dirt and grime. Rinse with fresh water and hang to dry.
Some people have expressed that they have been able to throw the harness and leash into a laundry bag and use their laundry machine on a gentle cycle, but it is still recommended to hang it to dry and not use the dryer.
Ease Of Use
Using the harness is as easy as can be – your pup needs to step into each leg hole, pull the harness up, and clip it securely in the back. This is pretty easy for my dog but can require training for more rambunctious pups. I find the clasp a bit small and easy to miss when trying to close it, but this is easily remedied after you get used to it. The leash attaches to the two O-rings above the clasp as an extra security measure.
The harness is straightforward to use, and you can immediately tell how safely the pressure is applied if your dog pulls. I wouldn’t consider this harness a good teaching tool for dogs that need strong corrections to fix leash-walking problems, but it is excellent for softer dogs in training or those that already know how to walk on leash. The design makes taking a walk a lot more enjoyable.

The harness has a breathable sandwich mesh on the chest area, ensuring comfort. All of the other nylon straps are fully adjustable, so they can be customized to be a perfect fit for Fido. The back features both a clasp and an O-ring, a safety precaution should one of the closure methods fail. The design is meant to be no-pull, but in a very safe manner; no pressure is applied to the dog’s neck or trachea, only balanced distribution in the chest area.
The leash features a neoprene lining, making putting the loop around the wrist much more enjoyable. It also has a full-rotation swivel, so it won’t get tangled should your dog spin around. There is a nifty loop for a bag dispenser, too.
The material is durable and can withstand water, sand, dirt, and whatever else you may encounter with your pup.

Is Bella & Pal a Good Value?
I don’t know if you’ve been to Petco or Petsmart recently, but the average dog harness sells for about $20 – $50. A harness that you can trust will actually stay on your dog, anyway. Leashes range at about $13 – $30 on average as well. On the low side, that’s $23, and on the high side, that’s $80+! There is also no telling if the leashes would match the harnesses or not; they’re not sold in a set.

Can I use the Bella & Pal OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness on dogs that pull or are not leash trained?
The OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness is a type of no-pull harness, but it does not have the front clip that most true, heavy-duty no-pull harnesses do (which has your dog turn towards you when they pull). With the design, although it is excellent to teach dogs not to pull and walk nicely on a leash, I wouldn’t use it with a dog that is aggressively pulling.
Is there a return policy?

Like many stores, products that have been used, washed, damaged, or missing the original packaging cannot be returned for a refund or exchange. Our Experience With Bella & Pal
I have been sharing my life with Lorelei for the last eight years; suffice to say, we’ve got the dog-walking thing down! That being said, despite her being trained as a generally decent walker, I still find myself frustrated with the fit of harnesses.
I prefer harnesses over collars because she is a small dog who sometimes pulls if she’s particularly stubborn about a scent, and I don’t want to injure her when redirecting. Unfortunately, so many harnesses sit in the wrong spot on her body and still put pressure on the neck region. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Bella & Pal OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness and the matching leash, but I hoped this would answer my woes.
I picked the lavender color as this has always been my dog’s “color” and it matches well with everything else that she has. When the package arrived, I was immediately in love with how accurate the color was! Sometimes, what you see on the web isn’t actuality, but this set was genuinely lavender. It was neatly packed in a bag, and upon opening, I immediately felt how soft and comfortable the mesh material was. It felt cold, breathable, and very squishy. As someone who is concerned about abrasive material on my dog’s sensitive skin, I knew this would be no issue for her.
The straps are all adjustable, so I could easily slide them small to ensure they fit perfectly on Lorelei’s body. It was so easy to adjust, and I could do so while the harness was on her! I could have let out a happy cry at how well the harness fit on her body. The chest plate was indeed on her chest, and the straps didn’t restrict her movement in any way.
I did have a little bit of trouble with the clasp in the back simply because it was small but this was no real issue. I quickly clipped the leash onto the O-rings, added a bag dispenser to the O-ring at the leash handle, and we were ready to walk.
I really enjoyed the neoprene lining on the leash handle. It made putting the loop around my wrist very comfortable. In the moments when my pup needed a little tug, I could feel that the harness was putting pressure in the right place, and she didn’t mind it one bit.
When we ventured to our local coffee shop, I tied her under the table and she laid down immediately. This is very unusual for my pup as she usually doesn’t lay when she has a harness on… likely because they aren’t too comfortable for her. With this one, she laid down with ease and fell asleep, which to me is a testament to how truly comfortable the Bella & Pal OxyMesh Flexi Step-in Harness is.
We took a weekend trip out to San Diego to visit a dog-friendly beach, and decided to put the harness and leash to the ultimate test. Brilliantly, the wet sand only stuck on for brief periods of time and immediately fell off when the leash dried and harness dried off. To this day, the set looks brand new even though it was being drugged through wet sand!
In the evenings, you can very clearly see the reflective stitching on the harness and leash, helping us take our nightly potty breaks with less concern. All of these little details add to how much I love this leash set and how I feel like the company really considered pet owners when designing it.

I’ve taken this set out to our local coffee shop, beach romps, car rides, and even just daily walks and it has performed beeautifully.
