Liam Payne has died in Argentina, Reuters has confirmed. The former One Direction singer was only 31.
How did Liam Payne die?
Payne was in Buenos Aires at the time of his death, at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. He is reported to have fallen from his room, on the 3rd floor. There’s no indication yet whether his death was intentional or accidental. Payne had been in Argentina for a Niall Horan concert, with his One Direction bandmates reuniting at the show.
Witnesses reported Payne was acting erratic at the hotel lobby earlier in the day, with the singer smashing his laptop and needing help to get back to his room. Paramedics in Argentina confirmed to local news stations that when they arrived at the scene Payne was already dead.
Payne was 16 when he, alongside Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik made up One Direction. The band was created during the show The X Factor in 2010. One Direction went on hiatus in 2016.
In 2021 Payne admitted that he struggled with both alcohol and prescription drug addictions during his time on the band. Earlier this week Payne’s ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, claimed Payne left her after asking her to get an abortion. The singer is survived by son Bear Grey, with ex Cheryl Cole.
