Charles “Chock” Chapple, a 60-year-old Insurance Executive from Wichita, Kansas, was one of 24 contestants on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette led by Joan Vassos. Joan, a 61-year-old Private School Administrator from Rockville, Maryland, was previously a contestant on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor with Gerry Turner, where she sent herself home in 12th place in Week 3 to care for her daughter, who had a medical emergency.
Chock was one of Joan’s few Golden Bachelorette contestants to receive a intro package on night one and even got the first one-on-one date with her of the season to Disneyland. In what may or may not come as a surprise to fans, Chock was the winner of The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 and received Joan’s last rose at the Final Rose Ceremony in the finale, according to Reality Steve, which means that Joan never sent him home. Chock won The Golden Bachelorette after Joan sent home her fourth-place finalist, Jordan Heller, a 61-year-old Sales Manager from Riverwoods, Illinois, after Hometown Dates.

Her other two finalists, Guy Gansert, a 66-year-old ER Doctor from Reno, Nevada, and Pascal Ibgur, a 69-year-old Salon Owner from Glencoe, Illinois, went home after Fantasy Suite Dates. Guy was sent home by Joan, while Pascal self-eliminated because he wasn’t in love with Joan, according to Reality Steve, who couldn’t confirm who came in third place and who was Joan’s runner-up.
Reality Steve originally reported that Chock came in third place on Joan’s Golden Bachelorette season, while Guy was her winner. However, he later corrected himself and confirmed that Chock was Joan’s winner.

Chock may be a controversial winner for The Golden Bachelorette, however, as many fans called him “controlling” and “possessive” after his group date in Week 6 when he stole most of Joan’s time during a bowling game with the other contestants to talk to her. “Someone give me a box of tissues. I’m so sad Joan sent home Mark. He’s such a sweetheart.💔 Instead she chooses a guy like Chock for hometowns. Don’t get me started on his weird name.😅 He gives me such bad vibes. He seems super possessive and controlling,” a user wrote on X after the episode, referencing Joan’s elimination of Mark Anderson in seventh place. “All I have to say is this: IMO, Chock is creepy, obsessive and possessive.
