Finding the right foundation for your skin is like finding the last puzzle piece. It should be effortless and easy, it should make your skin look and feel better without causing issues while you wear it.
For many, many years, I was extremely loyal to Nars Sheer Glow. It was the perfect sheer/medium coverage liquid foundation that worked very well for me. Then, several years ago, I shifted over to primarily reaching for Armani Luminous Silk when I applied my makeup in the morning, and I loved it even more than Nars Sheer Glow.
Armani Luminous Silk looks like my skin but better. It’s a natural, radiant finish on me that is thin enough to very easily blend in with either fingertips or a brush. I could spend an hour telling you that I think most people looking for foundation would be happiest with this formula because it’s so dang pretty and lasts all day.
Curiosity got the best of me, as it does, and I had to try the new Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation when it dropped a few months ago. I adore the HyGlam concealer (I use it every day), so I was excited about the foundation. It’s glowy and also blurring at the same time. It felt thicker than Luminious Silk and also provided a bit more coverage. It was like a realistic-looking airbrushed foundation that wore nicely during the day! I could definitely see a scenario in which this foundation could potentially stick to dry patches and/or breakouts, but a little trial and error with primers could mitigate that. My skin is thriving right now, thanks to my Barefaced Regiment and Spironolactone, and the HyGlam Foundation worked really well on my skin.
It felt a touch too glam for my everyday wardrobe and life, but I’m happy to have it for a photo shoot day, or anytime I’m dressing up a little bit more than usual! It looks really beautiful, and I got a few comments from people asking what I did differently when I began to wear it!
I was happy bouncing between Armani Luminous Silk and Natasha Denona HyGlam until I saw a video from Andreea saying she rarely uses Luminous Silk anymore, and I was ::shocked::. Now listen–I’m going to use what works for me, whether it’s the popular choice or not, and I wasn’t about to throw my Luminous Silk in the garbage or anything. . . but my interest was piqued.
Is there a foundation she would reach for instead of Luminous Silk? I kept watching, and one of the ones she mentioned was the Haus Labs foundation. I’ve heard SO MUCH about this foundation, and this was the final push I needed to give it a go.
I was immediately overwhelmed by the color selection when I started to browse online! I used the shade finder tool to get a starting point of what shade would likely work for me based on what I already use, but it ended up suggesting a neutral tone when I really needed a cooler-based foundation.
I found that shade 130 Light Warm* with rosy tones was the best match for me. The foundation looked amazing on the skin. It felt like my skin but better, and somehow I looked healthier and more vibrant.
The coverage is buildable, and while this formula is also a little bit heavier than Armani Luminous Silk, it’s certainly not a heavy-feeling foundation once it’s applied to the skin. I have been really happy with the wear, the finish, and the natural-ish looking base it gives me, while still allowing my freckles to shine through!
So, which is the right foundation for you? It depends on so much, of course. I would say you still cannot go wrong with Armani Luminous Silk, but if you want to try something new, go for the Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech foundation. And finally, if you like a more blurred, slightly fuller coverage finish that will leave you looking flawless, try the Natasha Denona HyGlam foundation.
*Don’t let the word “warm” throw you here; it’s a cool, rosy tone.
