What I’ve Been Eating, What I’ve Been Watching and The Failings of Junior Cluedo

Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you an entire rundown of the weeks’ meals, I’ve just been trying to overhaul the family diet a little bit and cut down on sugar. (It’s going marvellously for me, I’ve managed to only eat a Mint Magnum on four of the seven nights of the week instead of seven of the seven nights.) If you’d like to know which recipe book I’ve been digging into then continuer tout droit. Equally if you’d like a glimpse at this week’s reading pile and find out which TV series I’ve been trying not to binge-watch then this is the post for you! This week I finished two books and started a third. I know! This is why I’m so bloody behind on everything else in my life and still panic-typing at my laptop at 10am on a Saturday when I’m supposed to be playing Junior Cluedo with the kids. Oh my God have you ever played the junior version of Cluedo? It’s so disappointing! So basic! It’s not as though original Cluedo was massively taxing in the first place, was it? Though I suppose that trying to find out whether Mrs White was strangled to death in the library with a rope or brutally bludgeoned with a candlestick in the study is possibly not that age-appropriate. “Come on, Veronica darling, concentrate! I know you want your milky but first try and work out how Professor Plum met his violent end. Which of the many horrible ways?” Anyway Junior Cluedo has plastic and cardboard pieces. PLASTIC! No metal gun! No teeny piece of real-rope-made-of-plastic! Absolute travesty. It’s all “which toy got broken” and Mr Potato Head at 2pm in the Kitchen. No dramatic tension whatsoever. Because who cares about a broken toy? Surely there’s a child-friendly middle ground here. Extra-marital affairs? Petty crimes? Who did Miss Scarlet shag in the laundry room? Did Colonel Mustard knowingly tax evade in the conservatory?I don’t want to spoil the annual Books n Chocs post for you by telling you too much about the books I’ve been tearing through but I can safely give the following books the highest of recommendations:
