Beau & Blue: The Saga of Two Unlikely Friends

Hi, I’m Amanda! Read my introduction to learn more about me and Blue, my fluffy fire point Himalayan-Persian cat.
It was Christmas 2013 when we brought Blue home. She was the perfect addition to our family. Escaping from the cold weather was easy that year because we wanted to stay indoors and spend as much time with her as possible. Little did we know that Blue would have no trouble fitting in.
She was our second adoptee, so she was used to sharing her time straight away. And it was just her and our first Chihuahua, Beau, for a long time. We always joked they were the perfect combination—ying and yang.
Beau, known as Tuxedo Man thanks to his dapper coloring (and Sailor Moon, of course), looked suited up, while Blue’s ivory fur brought their picturesque look home—a darling little marriage of cat and dog.
They formed a pretty adorable bond early on—playing, chasing, and absorbing mannerisms from one another that many would only classify as dog or cat behaviors. Beau would clean his face like a cat and Blue would chase her tail like a doggo. Beau was very much a velcro pup, so inherently, Blue became a velcro cat. Wherever we went, they came.

Zoomies were a common occurrence for the two of them. Darting from room to room, the bed to the floor. Up the stairs, back down. Around the coffee table and back again. Each taking a turn until they’ve tired each other out.
One of my favorite moments between the two of them was an impromptu boxing match. My husband held up Blue while Beau tried to playfully nip at her. Of course, she was lightning fast and checked every single motion Beau made, which made it feel like a real back-and-forth sparring moment that had me in literal tears.
The Small Moments
Both Beau and Blue were huge fans of movie night. They’d each find a place on my lap, where they’d either groom themselves or take naps. Probably one of my most treasured and missed moments.
Beau was fairly accustomed to his kennel and spent his lazy days in there, so Blue followed. On other days, Blue would be in the highest perch of her cat tree, and Beau in the perch below. We’d leave the blinds open while we were gone so they could take turns barking at the bypassers or chattering at the birds in the tree out front.
At the end of the night, both found their spots in our bed, each sending a quick glance or paw out to the other as their way of saying goodnight and it was off to dream city. A quick recharge before the next day’s antics.

Beau’s Legacy Lives On
They were kennel mates, snuggle buddies, and best friends. Beau has since passed on but their saga will last a lifetime. I couldn’t have planned a better pair, an easier friendship, and a more dynamic duo than our first furbabies, even if I wanted to. In Beau’s final days, Blue kept a close watch on him, offering her support and comfort in the best way she knew how. I know she’s grateful for her big brother, cherishes his memory, and misses him as much as I do.
Until we all meet again—nothing but love from Blue and the fam, Beau. Rest easy, baby.
