I think we’re finally over the hump and the sales have slowed down! Black Friday and Cyber Monday were a whirlwind of sales, deals, and brands just plain giving things away for free (I’m talking to you, Tarte!).
Here’s the thing that you might have found interesting and convenient about all these Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals or maybe annoying (You decide)…! Let’s talk about it.
One of the most interesting and possibly convenient things about all the sales that were going on was the fact almost everyone was price matching. If it was on sale at Tarte you could find the same deal at Macy’s, Sephora, Ulta, etc…! There was a lot of competitive price matching happening and that’s not to say it hasn’t been like that in the past but I felt like it was even more so this year. Everyone had almost the same identical deals. What made this convenient was you could just shop these sales all in one place at your favorite retailer but ALSO, if they happened to sell out somewhere you can several other outlets to grab the deal.
I normally dislike having to hop around from retailer to retailer but I’ll throw in a tiny rant here. I kind of sort of disliked having the SAME exact deals everywhere. I wish there was a bit more variety with the sales items. I dunno why but I sort of like seeing different deals available from different retailers. It’s a really dumb rant and I don’t even know why I feel like that but it felt like browsing a bunch of the same, repetitive sales. That being said, the fact I could almost get everything I wanted from one retailer did make it easier to track the items I ordered and convenient just to do one sale and be done with it. I do think Black Friday and Cyber Monday is slowly being phased and being replaced with month long sales pitches or Cyber Week style sales. I remember when people patiently waited for Black Friday to arrive to score a deal now the deal is ready and available well before Black Friday and continues to be available up until the actual day. Patience is no longer needed when scoring a deal and I actually advise and recommend scoring something earlier at times as the deals seem to get a little crappier when Black Friday does arrive. For example, Victoria Beckham had that early 25% Off pre-Black Friday and when Black Friday finally did roll around it decreased to 20%! It did return to 25% for Cyber Monday but still it can be odd waiting for that one day to score a deal only to realize you missed the best deal by a few days or even a week. Holding out is no longer really necessary.
Nonetheless, Black Friday and Cyber Monday was pretty hectic with a lot of amazing deals and I’m wondering if my prediction about the sales tapering off now and things going back to somewhat normal pricing will be right. As last year, I remember things sort of calmed down right after the two main days and we saw less and less sales happening between those two days and Christmas. We’ll see how it goes though but seems like sales were successful online up 10% but sadly, stores were down around the same number.
Did you score anything awesome during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales?
