CoverGirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Plush Plump Primer Review & Swatches

CoverGirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Plush Plump Primer ($12.99) is one of four new primers that launched in the brand’s permanent collection. The four new primers were created to be mixed and matched to create your custom primer. I didn’t use them in this way as I wanted to experience each of the formulas on their own. Plush Plump Primer is supposed to be a cooling water-based cream that acts as a skincare slash primer hybrid that provides a dewy finish while plumping, brightening, smoothing, and hydrating. As someone who has duller skin the promise to “revise my tired-looking skin” was one I couldn’t pass up on so I purchased a bottle of CoverGirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Plush Plump Primer and decided to try it out for myself. Let’s check out my review below and see if it worked.

As a fan of anything that contains hyaluronic acid, I was overjoyed to see Covergirl doing a primer that promises to plump skin. But if I’m honest I sort of like NYX Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum a bit more than this (probably because it’s sticky and Covergirl’s isn’t).

As per Covergirl this “clinically increases skin’s radiance”, “plumps, brightens, and smooths” plus it provides 48 hours of hydration. I pretty much disagree with all of that. But let’s start with the basics first…
This comes in a 0.81 oz tube with an attached pump for easy application. It retails for $12.99 and that’s the lowest price I’ve seen it for thus far but I imagine once it hits mass retailers like Walmart you might see it around $10 bucks and some change. The tube pumps just the right amount of product out and I had no issues with it at all.
The formula has no fragrance and is a translucent cream gel that’s water-based. I didn’t experience any cooling sensation when I applied it. It does have a “bursting” effect when it hits the skin and what I mean by this is it just melts down rather quickly and feels like water as you apply it to your skin. It provides nice lightweight moisture but I’d probably go so far as to say I’ll like more moisture as a dry skin girl. This is just very lightly hydrating which would make it suitable for Summer wear or for oily skin users. I prefer a more hydrated or even sticky canvas to apply my makeup to for the smoothest coverage. This just didn’t quite give me that.
It does feel lovely on the skin and very light and breathable. It doesn’t feel like I’m wearing primer at all! It’s very pleasant in that aspect. Foundation applies smoothly over it however, I don’t believe it extended the wear of it. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid but that’s fairly down the list of ingredients so I question how much is actually in here as I didn’t notice any plumping action from it. Nor did I feel it brightened or made me more radiant.

This is a formula for either mature or drier skin. But oily I think maybe if you have oily skin you could appreciate this better than I could. However, that is only because it provides light moisture without being oily or shiny on your skin. But if you’re looking for it to hold the foundation in place all day you might want to look elsewhere. Or if you have pores that need filling or texture skin that you wish to smooth you might want to check out the TruBlend Skin Enhancer Velvet Blur Primer.
CoverGirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Plush Plump Primer is a nice but fairly basic water-based facial primer.

CoverGirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Plush Plump Primer is a new $12.99 primer that’s 0.81 oz inside. This is a fragrance-free formula that promises to plump, smooth, hydrate, and brighten skin with a cool feel. This formula has a light cream-gel consistency that absorbs instantly into the skin and feels almost like water as you massage it into the skin. It provides very light hydration without being sticky or tacky. I did think it did a decent job of providing a smooth base for the foundation but didn’t extend the wear of it. A lot of the promises it makes it did fail to deliver on and proved to be a simple facial primer without a lot of benefits.Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 80, Cetearyl Glucoside, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Bisabolol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Polyacrylate Starch, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract.

Lightweight, barely there finish.
Fragrance-free.

Doesn’t plump or brighten.
Doesn’t extend the wear of the foundation.
Provides light moisture and not 48 hours worth as promised.
