Hazel, an endearing and fluffy Yorkie-Chihuahua-poodle mix, lives up to this sentiment by brightening her owner Monica Burks’ days with her joyful and spirited demeanor. Residing in Abilene, Texas, Hazel and Monica, 48, share a special bond.

One rainy day, Monica let three-year-old Hazel out for a bathroom break. When Hazel didn’t return promptly, Monica grew concerned and went to check on her. What she discovered was astonishing.
Hazel had been drawn to the pitiable cries of a tiny, abandoned kitten by the roadside, soaked by the rain. Showing her compassionate nature, Hazel immediately took to the kitten and decided to help the forlorn creature.

Determined, Hazel began guiding the kitten towards her home. Despite the rain, she kept encouraging the kitten to follow her, persistently turning back to ensure it was still coming. Hazel’s perseverance paid off as they finally reached the front of the house, albeit slowly.
Monica was in awe as she watched her dog leading the stray kitten to safety in the downpour. She quickly captured the heartwarming scene on her phone. “There must be something called pure love. I saw Hazel’s maternal instincts come to light,” she shared.

The sound of the heavy rain was evident, but so was the kitten’s soft cries. The kitten hesitated and tried to retreat, but Hazel, undeterred, continued to coax her. With each attempt, the kitten grew more comfortable, following Hazel and mewing.
When they arrived at the doorstep, the kitten was too small to climb the high step. Hazel delicately grasped the kitten by the scruff of her neck and brought her inside. Once safe and warm, the kitten rolled onto her back, content.
