Everything I read in April & May

Okay, I needed to combine these months, forgive me! May is always a busy month with school wrapping up for the kids and my reading recap posts had to get pushed to the back burner temporarily!

Despite being late, I have some great book recs for the summer based on what I read in April and May.

Just for Summer by Abby Jimenez – This was a fun read. I liked the storyline of the two connecting based on a Reddit thread, it felt “of the times” without infusing too much current culture into the storyline. Some moments felt a little tween for my taste BUT it was a fast, easy read.

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Searle – I forgot when I purchased this on Audible but found it in my library under “unread” and gave it a go. With Rebecca Searle, you need to suspend reality for a moment to get into the story, but I sort of like that. I enjoyed the relationships between characters and the vivid descriptions of the scenes. It wasn’t my favorite read of all time, but I liked it!

This Summer Will be Different by Carley Fortune – I absolutely adored Carley’s first book, Every Summer After, and it’s hard to compete with such a beautiful story but this came close. It felt, at times, like the story was simply existing to get from one intimate scene to the next, so other than that I liked it! Again, there’s a theme here — when my life gets busy, I turn to light/easy/simple/tropey romance novels.

Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth – This was a little off the beaten path for my typical novel choices, and while there were moments that were very hard to swallow due to abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), I found myself wrapped up in thinking about how it would come to an end. It was heavy and intense, maybe a 3/5 stars.

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren – This writing duo can make me actually laugh out loud while reading or listening. The story was predictable, but that didn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it!

Currently Listening to: Pretty Things by Janelle Brown

Currently Reading: Funny Story by Emily Henry
