Will this work for my kid?
Every single kid is different. Isn’t it amazing? You know your child better than anyone, and only you can gauge what they can handle. I encourage you to use your best judgment when teaching them the tips, tools, and techniques I share to ensure they’re not overwhelmed or frightened. If you sense they’re feeling afraid or shutting down, you can always stop and try again another time when you believe they’re ready.
My child has a disability. Does your advice apply to them?
Absolutely! We include an entire module in this course for parents of kids with disabilities because there’s a LOT these kids can do to protect themselves.
What if my child is scared when we talk about these topics?
Your kid knows more than you may think about how dangerous the world can be. Not knowing how to avoid or handle these dangers makes your kid MORE, not LESS, vulnerable to predators. The Heroic Parenting 101 course breaks down what to say about body safety issues and how to approach them according to your child’s age and developmental level so you don’t overwhelm or frighten them. You can also stop and try again when they’re a bit older.
I was abused as a child; what if I get triggered during the course?
Those of you who, like me, were traumatized as a child may feel triggered by discussions about child molestation and assault, for example. I get it.
