It’s one of her most hotly anticipated singles and in the glow of her new relationship with Benny Blanco, Selena Gomez’s “Love On” lyrics hint at some steamy after-hours activities. On December 7, 2023, Selena confirmed her relationship with the famous producer, who’s been working with her on her new music.
Under one post from PopFaction’s post that read, “Selena Gomez Seemingly Confirms That She Is in a Relationship,” Gomez simply commented “Facts.” She wrote in the comment: “He is my absolute everything in my heart,” then replied to one fan: “then why has he been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The end.” She then shared a selfie of the two of them to her own Instagram Story as well as a ring in the shape of a B.
According to a press release, “Love On” is expected to be a “fun and flirty song inspired by the months Selena spent in Paris last year,” which she teased in a series of Instagram shots that she captioned “40 hours. Paris” and served so many looks.
“Love On” is her latest single and it’s a follow-up to her August 2023 “Single Soon”, where she sang about all the fun activities she’ll do when she finally breaks up with her boyfriend. In the intro, her little sister Gracie Elliott Teefey tells her not to worry about her boyfriends.
Selena goes through heartbreak and says that she’ll be a “mess” but all the things she does outweigh the grief. In the music video, she revels in all the fun with her friends by partying and going out to karaoke. And, what’s a breakup without a sleepover with all the girls?
She introduced the single a week before its release with a post on Instagram, “Y’all have been asking for new music for a while. Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer. SINGLE SOON. August 25th. Presave it now. 😘”
In an interview with Rolling Stone, she talked about the process of writing her new album, which includes 23 tracks. “My Mind and Me is a little sad,” she explains, “but it’s also a really nice way of putting a button on the documentary part of life, and then it’ll just be fun stories of me living my life and going on dates and having conversations with myself. I feel like it’s going be an album that’s like, ‘Oh, she’s not in that place anymore; she’s actually just living life.’”
Selena has been open about her relationships and her state of being single. “If I can be honest, it is so cliché,” Selena told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in 2020. “It’s just everyone dates everyone. It always seems to be within this little bubble — and it’s because it’s safe.”
She continued, “You’re wanting someone to understand what you’re going through, you’re almost wanting a counterpart of creativity as well, and it’s interesting and fun. But the problem with that is you end up, whether you admit it or not, you’re having a relationship for people and not even for yourself.” She added, “There’s almost this point where it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re making it known that we’re together.’ Or whatever it is. You just need to decide within our world if it’s for you or is it for show.”
Though now, she’s been more and more open about her relationship and it’s probably the most iconic hard launch of the year.
