Joey King Chopped Off All Her Hair to Debut a Bob at Cannes

As usual, everyone’s bringing their best looks to Cannes. And even though it’s a bit unexpected, Joey King’s bob is probably one of the most dramatic overnight look changes in all of the film festival’s history. (It’s the most dramatic one I can remember, at least.) The Bullet Train star went from having chest-length long hair to a blunt bob less than a day later. I know Hollywood loves their quick hair changes, but does everyone seriously just have their hair dressers on 24-hour standby?

I thought it was a lob girl summer, especially with Margot Robbie recently joining the club, but Joey King is making a case for actual bobs. Sure, summer makes everyone think of long beachy hair—but there’s nothing better than chopping off all your hair the second temps start to rise. Even if you’re not hitting the red carpet at Cannes like Joey King, she might’ve still convinced you to join the bob brigade.

You’re seeing right—Joey King brought back her Ramona and Beezus bob. With so much talk about 2010 making a comeback, it’s only right that Joey re-debuts her iconic childhood haircut. But unlike her Ramona and Beezus cut, this new look is missing bangs—and of course is far more elevated and mature than the original haircut. The sleek ear-length bob is perfect for Cannes, and screams quiet luxury (oxymoron anyone?) in every way.

For a lot of us, bobs bring back traumatic memories. Whether it was forced upon you Pen15 style or was just your go-to hairstyle for all of your adolescence, you may still have nightmares about your childhood bob. (I know I do.) And even though I’ll probably always shudder at the thought of my dad cutting my hair over the kitchen sink, I can’t deny how much the bob is working for Joey King. I’m sure tons of other celebrities will soon follow suit—so hopefully my trauma subsides. After all, if Joey can impulsively chop off her hair, we can too.
