New information about Liam Payne’s death has been discovered by Argentine officials. CCTV footage from the night of his death revealed that the One Direction member fell off his balcony accidentally.
On October 16, 2024, Buenos Aires police confirmed that Liam Payne died when he fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Argentina’s capital, resulting in “extremely serious injuries.” Medics confirmed his death on the spot, the statement said.

Pablo Policicchio, the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, said in a statement to The Associated Press that Payne “had jumped from the balcony of his room.” Police rushed to the scene after they received a 911 call about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” However, CCTV footage from the night explained more about the situation.
Argentine journalist Paula Varela claimed during an appearance on Socios del Espectáculo that CCTV footage captured the last minutes of Liam Payne on his balcony before he fell to his death. “There is footage that is not being released to the media with the balcony scene where you see that Liam faints, and tragically because of where he is, falls from that balcony, If he had been beside his bed, he would have fallen on his bed,” the journalist said. “It’s not that he jumped deliberately. This footage is in the official case files.”
Varela also revealed that a hotel staff disobeyed management orders by bringing items to his hotel room. “Because of the good relationship he had with Liam he requested a car through one of these taxi apps we all use because Liam wanted something,” the journalist recounted.
According to Alberto Crescenti, chief of Buenos Aires emergency services, Payne suffered “serious injuries” that proved fatal before responders could intervene. “Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” Crescenti told La Nación. A partial autopsy reported that Payne ingested substances including ”pink cocaine” – a recreational drug that typically is a mix of several drugs including methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and others – as well as cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack before the fall.
