You can catch up on our Lake Placid adventures here, but this post is what I would recommend for a long weekend in Lake Placid, New York!
Friday: Let’s assume a roughly 2:00 pm arrival time, drop your things at the Grand Adirondack on Main Street and set out on a walk around Mirror Lake. It’s about a 2.7-mile loop that will provide absolutely stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Head to an early dinner at Lisa G’s on Sentinel Rd (you can walk there) and then wrap up the evening by grabbing ice cream at Emma’s Lake Placid Creamery back on Main Street.
Saturday: Wake up and walk over to Cobble Hill Trail to hike the 1.5-mile (round trip) loop. Once at the top, you’ll be able to look down onto Mirror Lake and see some of the bigger buildings on Main Street as well! After the hike, walk over to Origins Coffee for a pastry and morning coffee. You may want to wander over to look at the Oval (where the Olympic Speed Skating took place), and maybe explore the museum within the Olympic Center. You can walk into the 1932 and 1980 ice rinks as well and read the plaques on the walls. It’s fascinating to learn about the history of Lake Placid and specifically the Olympics that took place here!
In the afternoon, stop by 46 Sandwiches (Big Mountain Deli) on Main Street for a simple lunch. You can walk into the very adorable library and wander through it, or simply stroll up and down Main St. and walk through the shops.
Around 4:00 pm, head up to Cloud Splitter for a happy hour drink and take a break while enjoying the beautiful views of Mirror Lake. For dinner, drive over to Tail O’ The Pup, about a 15-minute drive, for BBQ dinner, music, and great vibes.
Sunday: Indulge in a sweet breakfast crepe at Big Mountain Deli + Creperie, and then rent a kayak or paddleboard to use on Mirror Lake! In the afternoon, head back to the hotel to freshen up, and then drive over to the Olympic Ski Jumping Observation Deck. You can take the skyride, which will include a Gondola experience, or just do the elevator ride.
That evening, if you’re feeling like dressing up a little bit after an active/outdoorsy weekend, head over to The View Restaurant at Mirror Lake Inn (reservations strongly recommended) for incredible views and fine dining. It’s the only AAA four-diamond restaurant in town.
Wrap up the evening with a stroll down Mid’s Park and enjoy the sunset.
Monday: Head to The Breakfast Club for homemade pancakes so you’re full for your travel day home! Maybe bookend the trip by doing a final walk around Mirror Lake! You can also swing by Imagination Station to grab any toys or souvenirs for the children in your life!
This is just a snapshot of a few things that I can personally recommend if you visit that area. We have loved spending time there this summer and plan to continue to share more recommendations as we discover more!
