Update July 2024:
Starting May 1, 2025, TICA will recognize mink, sepia, and solid large semi-longhaired cats of the moderate type as Cherubim (CB), and no longer as BEP (blue eyed pointed) Ragdolls (RD).
Cherubim distinguishes them from the Ragdoll (RD), a large semi-longhair, blue-eyed pointed cat of moderate type.
Kristin Demko of CottonBlues Ragdolls who sits on the Ragdoll Breed Committee for the Ragdoll breed for TICA said: “CFA and FIFE do not register minks, sepias, and solids because Ragdolls have always been a blue-eyed pointed breed from the time they were accepted as a purebred for registration. And even in TICA, they are a DQ and can’t be shown for legitimate titles and awards. So, on May 1, 2025, those cats will be changed to their own breed, Cherubim, and will be recognized and legitimized as purebred and can compete for titles and awards under the name Cherubim. Responsible breeders consider pedigrees and lineage when breeding and stick to a standard so we can preserve the breed. Without that, we wouldn’t have a breed. While it’s true that outcrossing took place to bring in certain colors like lynx, reds, torties, and in some cases the chocolate gene, you will find many of the foundation cats that helped to bring those colors in, at least 20 to 25 years back in the pedigree. And as long as those colors are blue-eyed pointed cats with a legit pedigree and paperwork, they meet the Ragdoll standard and are purebred Ragdolls. I hope people can embrace the change as a step in the right direction for both Ragdolls and the new breed Cherubim. The Cherubim have deliberately been bred against the Ragdoll standard, so now BOTH will have a standard to breed towards so both breeds of cats can be preserved.”
For a true show-quality Ragdoll with TICA, the pointed markings are a must.
