I have been overwhelmed with comments and messages from so many of you who subscribe to the Small Talk newsletter and got the news that we bought a vacation home! Thank you for being excited for us! We are SO EXCITED!
I shared last weekend that Justin and I bought a tiny little house in Lake Placid, New York. We are heading up there for the summer and cannot wait to start our little life there. You may be wondering why we chose Lake Placid, of all places, so allow me to explain.
Justin and I visited last summer when he signed up for the Lake Placid Ironman. He trained for about 9 months and ultimately *crushed* his race. Not only was that part of the weekend very special, but we also fell in love with the Adirondack mountains, the quaint town, the crystal clear lake, and the very rural vibe of Lake Placid.
We had been talking about what kinds of things we want to do for our kids and what memories we want to create for our family, and we kept coming back to “a place to go stay in the summer”. We considered a lot of options, and then one day Justin looked at me and said, “What about Lake Placid?”
We went down that rabbit trail and began to realize it checked so many of our boxes. And beyond the summertime fun with a lake and mountains, it also gave us a place to go snow skiing in the wintertime!
In January, Justin flew up to see this tiny little 75-year-old home that was on the market. He immediately felt that the location, the yard, the proximity to the lake, and the simplicity of the house would be perfect for us, so we bought it!
Since January, Justin has been to the house 3 times. I, however, have *NEVER BEEN THERE*! It’s kind of wild to think about, but it makes me very excited to see it for the first time with the kids when we all get there in July.
There is so much more to share, from some updates we’ve done inside to our grand plans for a renovation, but for now, I just needed to finally let you in on this big secret I’ve been keeping (which has been hard!) and share the news.
