This short-telephoto prime lens delivers both a smooth bokeh effect and sharp image quality. What sets this 100mm f/2.8 lens apart is its Smooth Trans Focus (STF) technology. This technology employs an apodization filter to produce exceptionally smooth bokeh, creating rounded out-of-focus highlights in both the foreground and background.
The “Smooth Trans Focus” refers to an optical design that includes an apodization (APD) element, which enhances the quality of the bokeh effect. This APD element is similar to a radially graduated ND filter that transitions from clear at the center to a denser shade towards the edges. The result is a more circular out-of-focus highlight, creating a more appealing selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.
This lens is designed to work with E-Mount cameras and covers the full-frame sensor. It has a smooth and pleasing bokeh. The lens also has one aspherical element and one ED element to reduce aberrations and improve sharpness. The Nano AR coating minimizes flare and ghosting.
