Hi, I’m Amanda! Read my introduction to learn more about me and Blue, my fluffy fire point Himalayan-Persian cat.
Sometimes I envy Blue. She has all the time in the world yet chooses to sleep the majority of it away. Not for a lack of stimulation or things to do. Simply because she has that choice. If I was a cat for a day, I’m sure I could squeeze in a solid 22-hour nap, no problem. Sounds dreamy.
With a full schedule of naps penciled in each day and a pressing desire to follow me around, Blue needs a comfy resting spot in each area of our home. With a variety of beds and blankets strategically placed, there is never a shortage of z’s for her to cash in on.
Top 8 Places Blue Likes to Nap
1. The Hepper Nest
This is by far her most favorite bed. Even when she’s awake, this is one she frequents the most. Not only does it provide optimum comfort for sleep but Blue seems to love the security and support the Nest offers. The unique design improves her grooming abilities since the high sides allow her to fold up like she’s done pilates for years. Admittedly, this was a purchase made because we are Heppsters, but it turned out to be one of the coolest things we ever brought home for her. She’s always been a cat-bed kind of gal but this one is special. Had we known a bed like this existed before our time at Hepper, we would have had one sooner.
2. The Beach House
If you’ve been following along with our journey, you’ll know we’ve recently purchased a little cardboard scratcher house for Blue. The base of the enclosure is a thick, scratch-inviting cardboard that I heavily doused with catnip spray when we first set it up to help encourage her to go inside. Once the scent faded and the catnip high loosened its reins, Blue discovered it was a great spot to watch the activity in the room and sleep when the humans became boring. It has a cute plush beach ball that hangs in the doorway that initially Blue ignored but now enjoys batting around when she’s tucked inside, not counting sheep.
3. The Hepper Pod
The Pod for Blue is the ultimate escape. It’s off the grid so to speak, in a hallway off of our spare bedroom, an area that my family doesn’t tend to pass by regularly. The Pod is an off-the-ground, enclosed bed in a quiet, dark area – a recipe for the deepest sleep. I like to refer to this bed as her weekend retreat since it’s her preferred spot while we’re busy around the house or playing outside. A recharge from having to transfer from bed to bed during the week. It’s a hard job so regular R&R with the Pod is exactly what the doc ordered.
4. The Kennel
We have a kennel set up on our main level that is shared by both Blue and our Chihuahua, Subi. The inside is lined with an array of fuzzy pet blankets and a giant plush dog bed. Our bay window showers this nap spot with a ton of natural light. Some of their basking and afternoon snoozes take place here. The kennel also comes with a subscription to Local Geographic. Blue and Subi have front-row seats to watch a variety of birds, rabbits, and of course, other humans walking their dogs. It’s really exciting stuff.
5. The Secret Bed
Positioned neatly between our recliner and couch, the secret bed is another option for Blue if we are all in the living room watching a movie, unless she can sneak her way into the inevitable cuddle-puddle taking place on the couch. Although I don’t see her in here much, I know she likes to check out every so often.
6. Every Single Human Bed or Couch in our House
Probably don’t need much of an explanation here because if they’re good enough for us, they’re good enough for her.
7. The Chaise
Blue sleeps on our couch chaise when no one else is in the living room and our curtains are open. It’s a great vantage point that overlooks the front yard and the inside of our home. The afternoon sun hits this spot on the couch for a few hours every day and what cat doesn’t love sunbathing? With that and the endless room for stretching, this is probably her top summer hangout.
8. My Lap
Whether I’m tethered to my keyboard at my desk or catching up on the latest shows on the couch, Blue insists on being lap-bound and would stay as long as would let her. For many cat owners, a small movement is enough to send their cat off but not Blue. She needs a bit of forced motivation to move along. Before you say anything about shooshing her off, she’s a fairly large cat and my legs always end up in pins and needles. While this isn’t always the most convenient place for her to be, I’ll always take a few minutes for a good kitty cuddle before moving her to one of her beds.
Wrapping Up
There is no lack of comfy nap spots around the house and Blue takes full advantage of every single one. With so many hours dedicated to slumber, why not switch it up if the resources are available?
