Hello, beautiful people! Today I’m sharing the eyebrow hack that saves me 20 minutes every morning, by indie beauty makeup expert and lover Cordelia Frost. If there’s one part of my routine I refuse to skip, it’s my brows. But let’s be honest, tinted gels, pens, pencils, and powders can eat up so much time when you’re rushing to get out the door. That’s why I started dyeing my eyebrows, and it’s the single best beauty hack I’ve ever added to my routine. In this blog post you’ll learn how to dye eyebrows at home, in case you’re into DIY like I am.
Everything purchased by me. All opinions are my own.
Why Brows Matter
Your eyes are the window to your soul and your eyebrows frame your eyes. When your brows flatter your features, they instantly make you look more balanced, confident, and put-together, even on no makeup days. That’s why this eyebrow hack stands out as the best I’ve ever found and I wish I had started doing it years ago.
My brows are naturally sparse. Before I turned 30, I never spared any thoughts about my brows. I never shaped them or plucked them and they just grew as they were. That changed when I got into eyeshadow and wanted to start doing more creative and complicated makeup looks.
Because my eyes used to be hooded and are now deep set, I find it more important than ever to make sure they’re framed in a flattering way. I consider my eyes to be one of my best features, so I want my brows done and my eyes to pop. I feel like they look unfinished without a little bit of product, such as the RefectoCil dye.
That said, I don’t enjoy spending 20 minutes on my brows, trying to make them look like perfect twins when at best they’re sisters and at worst they’re distant cousins. If I skip doing my brows, I look and feel less polished and put together. I needed to find a way to speed up my daily brow routine so that I had more time for my eyeshadow. I’m so grateful that I found this eyebrow dye hack!
The Problem With Daily Brow Products
Using tinted brow gels, brow pens, brow pencils, brow powders, and more to try to make my brows darker and balance them out always felt too time consuming to me. There are a lot of nice tinted gels out there, but I often felt like it looked like I had caked too much product on my brows to achieve the color I wanted.
I’m heavy handed, so I struggled to achieve perfect hairlike strokes with brow pens and pencils. I do better with a product like Silk Naturals Tour Loose Eyeshadow as a brow powder, but it still takes longer than I’d like to draw on brow hairs individually. Additionally, I always needed to make sure that I used a setting spray with my brow products so that they would last all day.
My Eyebrow Dye Hack
Enter RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit in Blue-Black, the blue black eyebrow dye that is cruelty free and an eyebrow routine time saver! Rather than spend 15-20 minutes a day on my brows using brow products, I spend 20-30 minutes every four to six weeks with the RefectoCil kit.
I chose RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit in Blue-Black because this blue black eyebrow dye matches the dark streaks in my hair and also makes my blue-green eyes pop like never before. The darker shade gives my brows instant definition and fullness, so I look put-together even without makeup. Best of all, I have completely cut out the need for tinted brow gels or daily brow maintenance.
I no longer agonize over how similar my brows look, because the dye makes them appear closer to twins than cousins for me. I love that the dye instantly makes my eyebrows look fuller.
RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit in Blue-Black has become a confidence booster for me, especially on my no makeup days. Lately I’ve been so busy with my full time work, plus another project that I started, that I haven’t had much time to play with makeup. Yet, I’m still having to do video meetings with people. I feel confident that I look great even without any makeup on in these videos because of how my brows frame my eyes, preventing me from looking completely washed out.

Key Benefits of Dyeing Your Brows
Here are the key benefits of dyeing your brows every four to six weeks instead of using tinted brow products daily.
First, I save up to 20 minutes every morning with this eyebrow hack because I only use a clear brow gel to hold my hair in place and I don’t usually bother to fill them in at all or draw on extra hairs.
Second, my brows look fuller and more polished, whether it’s a no makeup day or a full beat.
Third, RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit provides me with long lasting results. I like to dye my brows every three to four weeks, but I’ve waited as long as six weeks in between dyeing. I recommend testing it out by recording when you dye your brows, and then see how many weeks you can go before you feel they need to be touched up.
Fourth, and this is definitely one of the most important reasons, is that it boosts my confidence by making my eyes pop and my face look more defined.
Fifth, I save money by only needing to use my favorite clear brow gel, Nyx the Brow Glue Crazy Lift. It’s only $12 and frequently can be found on sale at drugstores and Ulta. Nyx the Brow Glue Crazy Lift is the drugstore affordable version of the Anastasia Brow Freeze Gel.
Safety Tips and Best Practices for Brow Dye
I recommend the following safety tips and best practices for brow dye at home.
First, you should do a patch test before you use the dye. Just because I’ve had no issues with RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit in Blue-Black, it doesn’t mean you would have no issues.
Second, I recommend using a reputable hair dye brand, such as RefectoCil. I would not recommend trying just any dye, as you don’t know if is formulated to be safe near the eyes.
Third, if you are worried about the dye getting elsewhere on your body, you can always use a barrier cream.
How to do a Patch Test
In case you are a beginner with dye, let me explain the safe way to do a patch test.
First, decide where you are going to test. The most common spots to test are behind the ear and on the inside of your elbow. The inside of the elbow is the easiest place to monitor while behind your ear is one of the most sensitive pieces of your skin.
Second, you mix a tiny dot of dye together, around the size of a single grain of rice. Third, you apply that to your clean dry skin in a test spot. Leave it on for the amount of time you’re going to leave the dye on. In my case, 20 to 30 minutes. Finally, you watch that area of skin for the next 24 to 48 hours to see if you have any itching, swelling, a rash, or signs of redness.
If you have no irritation, you’re good to go!
Before and After: The Difference It Makes
Before Dye is Applied
Here’s what I look like before I dyed my brows recently. I was five weeks out instead of four. My brows look nice but my natural color is doing me no favors. I don’t feel put together when my eyebrows aren’t dyed, I feel half naked with no brow dye.
During the Dye Process
I definitely feel like I’m channeling Brooke Shields while I’m waiting for the RefectoCil dye to process.
Immediately After Dyeing Brows
Here’s what I look like after I dyed my brows. Even though it’s the same amount of hair, my brows appear fuller and I feel more confident without makeup with them dyed.
Smoky Eyes with Dyed Brows
Here’s the most recent makeup look that I’ve put together. My brows look natural but defined, and perfect for me!

I love all my BlackMilk alternative fashion clothing, but I especially love everything Rio style!
The Poké Ball Rio Skater Dress is one of my all time favorites because of how flattering it is on my figure and the dress theme. For our gothic wedding, Dave gifted me a Legendary Poké Ball, saying I was his legendary partner, which I adored. It’s one of the many reasons I love this dress!

Top Questions about Dyeing Your Brows
Why should I dye my eyebrows instead of using a brow gel or pencil?
In my personal experience as a beauty expert of two decades, dyeing my eyebrows with RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit saves me time every single day, gives me a fuller and more polished look, lasts longer than gels or pencils, and saves me money because I need to buy fewer products. It can cut 20 minutes out of your routine if you are like me and were born with cousins instead of sisters or twins for brows, and you obsess over getting them to be as similar as possible.
How long does eyebrow dye last?
In my experience, you’re going to want to dye your eyebrows every three to six weeks. It will depend on how fast your eyebrows grow. I find four weeks is the sweet spot and typically am happy if I do it every four weeks. So every four weeks I spend 20 to 30 minutes dyeing my brows, and then don’t have to spend 10-20 minutes daily shaping, tinting, filling in my brows and locking them down. That’s 560 minutes saved in a four week time period.
Can I use regular hair dye on my eyebrows?
No. I do not recommend using regular hair dye on your eyebrows. I recommend using a product that is formulated for eyebrows or facial hair. Regular hair dye may not be safe for the eye area. Nothing is worth risking your eyes!
What color should I choose if I have colorful or rainbow hair?
It depends on your aesthetic! I love to use a blue-black dye to match the blue-black streaks in my cool toned neon pink hair. The blue-black brow color makes my blue-green eyes pop. You can choose a dye shade that works with whatever your natural hair color is under the dye, or one that coordinates with your dye. I like the look of darker brows, which is what I would recommend in most cases.
RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit comes in Black, Graphite, Blue Black, Natural Brown, and Light Brown. To my eyes, Light Brown looks like it is meant for blonde and light brown hair. Natural Brown looks like it is meant for medium brown to deep brown hair. Graphite looks like it is meant for ashy or grey hair. Black is a natural warm black. Blue Black is a cool toned blue black.

Is eyebrow dye safe for sensitive skin?
Most brow dyes are safe for sensitive skin, but I always recommend patch testing first. You should patch test 24 to 48 hours before use to make sure you don’t have a reaction.
Can dyed brows look natural without makeup?
Absolutely yes! Dyeing your brows, in the opinion of Cordelia at Phyrra.net, gives the brows definition, makes eyebrows look fuller, and adds depth, framing your eyes beautifully so that you can skip makeup while still looking put together. I have some friends who, if pressed between brows and mascara, will always choose to do brows over mascara. Now you never have to make that decision!
Final Thoughts: Effortless Beauty Confidence
For me, using RefectoCil Hair Tinting Kit in Blue-Black is the best eyebrow dye hack to make my eyebrows look fuller. I love that it’s a time-saving beauty hack, so instead of spending up to 20 minutes a day on my brows, I’m spending 20 minutes every four to six weeks. This is such a huge eyebrow routine time saver for me.
I feel more confident with my brows dyed that I know I look my best. Now, instead of fussing over my brows every morning, I wake up with bold, polished arches that frame my face perfectly.
If you’re tired of messing with brow gels, pencils, powders and more, I urge you to try the eyebrow hack that saves me 20 minutes every morning, and dye your brows.
