Urban Decay’s The Original Naked Eyeshadow Palette Returns Here’s Why It Shouldn’t Come Back

On August 4th, just in time for Back to School, the original Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette will be making a come back! It returns to Ulta and ulta.com on this date and will be available for $59 and includes the same iconic line up of 12 neutral, natural shades of color. I’d go so far as to say the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow gave birth to the brown and nude eyeshadow palette revolution! It brought brown eyeshadow into the spotlight and with its introduction hundreds of other nude, natural palettes came to be. Hey, there was even a Victoria’s Naked Eyeshadow Palette which Urban Decay sued Victoria’s Secret over as they own the copyright to “naked” in the world of makeup! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but Victoria’s Secret probably went a bit too far with their version! Urban Decay Naked was discontinued a mere six years ago but I’m absolutely aghast that people in their early to late twenties are on Tiktok are saying how excited they are about its return because they didn’t get a chance to buy it when it was around a few years ago. This just reinforces the fact I’m getting old as who would think Urban Decay’s Naked Eyeshadow Palette is such a “vintage” item.
Anyway, Naked went out with a bang when it did go! We had a funeral with Nicole Richie doing a farewell eulogy. But Urban Decay wasn’t done with Naked completely! Since that time the Naked name has carried on with releases like the Naked Wild West Eyeshadow Palette, Naked Metal Mania Eyeshadow Palette, Naked Cyber Eyeshadow Palette, and many more. But I don’t anyone, not even Urban Decay themselves, recreated the magic that was the original Naked Eyeshadow Palette.

Urban Decay’s Naked Eyeshadow Palette should remain peacefully buried. I do not believe the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette needs to be resurrected and returned to the land of the living. Why? Because I have doubts it will be fully restored to it’s original glory. You know, like the pets buried in Stephen King’s Pet Sematary they never come back the same. We all know Urban Decay’s quality isn’t anywhere near what it was six or more years ago. The Naked Eyeshadow Palette had a great formula! Soft, velvety eyeshadows! As years when on and other palettes were introduced like Naked Honey and Naked Cherry the formula got more and more drier and dense. And nowadays, well, their eyeshadows aren’t anywhere near what they once were and likely never will be again. If you remember and loved the original I think it’s safe to say the return of this palette may be disappointing. But I wonder, for those who never tried the original will they love it? Or leave it?
Until Urban Decay can bright it back and restore it to its former glory perhaps the Naked Eyeshadow Palette should stay eternally at rest and peace. Don’t quote me, because who knows, maybe they’ll surprise us…! But I have my doubts about the Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow return. Do you?
