Laci disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. Four months later, her decomposed remains washed up on the shore of a nearby beach. Her unborn son, who the couple was going to name Conner, was found a mile away, despite no reported signs she had given birth.

The disturbing case captured the nation’s attention, dominating news media night after night as facts slowly but surely led law enforcement to prosecute her husband. Frey’s testimony against Scott was a vital part of his conviction. Here’s where she is now.

Where is Amber Frey now?

These days, Frey still lives in California where she’s an ambassador for Bucked Up, a workout supplement brand. According to her Facebook bio, she’s “finding my way through life with peace, love and happiness,” and lives a relatively normal life out of the spotlight.

This documentary is the first time Frey has spoken publicly about the case. In 2022 when Scott’s appeal for a new trial was denied, she issued a statement via her longtime attorney, Gloria Allred. “It’s relieving to hear Scott Peterson will not get a new trial,” she said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.

“I would have been willing to testify again. However, I am relieved that my testimony will not be necessary. If I were called to testify, I would give truthful testimony again, for the truth doesn’t change over time.”

In addition to new insights provided by Frey in American Murder, never-before-heard recordings of her conversations with Scott will also feature. “So what do you want to be together with me?” Frey is heard asking Peterson in one of the recordings played in the trailer. “For the rest of our lives I think we could care for each other,” Scott replied.

In 2002, it was Frey who called the police on Scott after she saw on the news that Laci was missing. She claimed that Scott told her he was single during their relationship and their phone calls gave him a motive for wanting to escape his marriage, particularly because Laci was pregnant with a child he allegedly didn’t want.

Frey’s testimony against Scott

When Frey took to the stand in 2004, Frey testified that she had no idea Scott was married at the time of their tryst, per CNN. “At any time did the defendant ever tell you that he was married?” prosecutor Dave Harris asked. “No,” Frey said. “Ever tell you that he lived in Modesto?” Harris asked. “No,” she said. “Ever tell you he had a child on the way?” the prosecutor asked. Again, she answered, “No.”

She supplied recordings of them after Laci disappeared, in one such tape, he pretended he was calling from Paris. “It’s pretty awesome. Fireworks there at the Eiffel Tower. A mass of people all playing American pop songs,” Peterson said.

She also testified that on December 23, 2002, the day police believed Peterson murdered his wife, Scott told Frey that he wanted them to meet with a doctor to discuss having a vasectomy.
